Safe Harbor: Activists conflate privacy and cybersecurity

In a recent op-ed for The Wall Street Journal, I described how some self-proclaimed privacy advocates in Europe are unwittingly reducing the Europeans’ right to privacy, forcing businesses to pay needless costs, and fanning the flames of protectionism. The piece was critiqued by Marc Rotenberg, President of the Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC), who declared that Europeans should not store their data in the USA. Their reason? Neither American companies nor the US government can keep it secure.
