The Disrupters: AT&T Chief Strategy Officer John Donovan on building the broadband network of the future
AT&T Chief Strategy Officer John Donovan visits AEI to discuss the fantastic possibility of tomorrow’s broadband networks — and the workforce we will need to build them.
On Wednesday, May 5, AEI welcomed AT&T’s Chief Strategy Officer John Donovan to discuss how his company is handling the transition into the future of broadband.
The discussion touched on the company’s switch to software-defined networking, the challenge of reskilling the company’s 80,000-person workforce for the future, and how tech companies can inform Washington of the “art of the possible.” Donovan emphasized how important it is for companies to continue disrupting, and how giving employees the tools necessary to educate and retrain themselves has kept them inspired and has moved the company forward.
Looking toward the future, Donovan hoped Washington could create a “level playing field” that allows all companies to innovate and invest without restraints. Whether Washington is headed in this direction is debatable, but Wednesday’s discussion was, at the very least, a look into what is possible when innovators are empowered to do what they do best.
