Hooked On Junk
“If you put junk food in your body, your body will turn to junk.” – Goldie Hawn
Kick In The Ass
Alright, so Goldie Hawn isn’t exactly the most prolific of life gurus, (not like yours truly, anyway). And her quote is a bit on the nose. But nevertheless, it is a fact. We are a product of what we consume.
We all learned at a young age the 4 major food groups in that adorable pyramid graphic. And we also learned how sugar and fatty foods are bad for our health. Now, whether we listen to the health community’s warnings about junk food is another matter. But at the very least, we know the food we put in our mouth has a direct impact on our bodies. In fact, we see it. We can look in the mirror and see the food choices we make every day. Yes, everyone has a different metabolism and genetic predisposition, etc… But we can all agree that the food we eat effects us positively or negatively, depending on what we choose to put in our mouth.
Junk food is a term for food that has little nutritional value. And because we’re living, breathing organisms, we need certain basic foods to survive, let alone thrive.
This is nothing new, right? They’ve thrown countless studies in our faces for decades about the absolute need to fuel our bodies with healthy substances. It goes without saying at this point. They’ve put warning labels on everything. For self-service foods and foods on display, calories must be listed in close proximity and clearly associated with the standard menu item.
It’s no longer an issue of food education. Plus, we can see with our own two eyes the effects of eating unhealthy food. Our bodies react!
