Can We Still Reinvent Ourselves?

Of the many things that influence who we are and what we do, none is more insidious than the society we find ourselves in. While society offers us the blanket of civilization, it also offers us the evils that are associated with it. Authority figures who attempt to control our destiny, the people who think they know what’s best for us, the influencers who attempt to persuade us to follow their path, and our peers who try to determine our future frontier. We don’t even have the freedom to dress as someone else on Halloween out of fear that it may be too upsetting, too triggering, and too offensive to someone else.

This doesn’t leave us with much personal freedom.
