Christine Lagarde faces Parliament: Live blog

Christine Lagarde, the nominee to be the European Central Bank’s next president, faces scrutiny from the European Parliament’s economic and monetary affairs committee on Wednesday morning ahead of a vote on her candidacy later this month.

Lagarde said she plans to throw the weight of the Frankfurt institution into the fight against climate change and continue Mario Draghi’s policy of stimulating the economy as she bids to take the helm of the ECB from November 1.

Parliament’s recommendation would be a non-binding but politically necessary step toward her formal appointment by EU leaders.
