“He who sweats more in training bleeds less in battle”

It was late August 1989, and as I stood there in full football pads, the temperature hovering around 95 degrees and every part of my body aching, I wished I would get a minor injury so I could sit out the next few days of double sessions. I couldn’t be so lucky as the coach blew his whistle to begin thirty minutes of all sorts of misery. Eight hours a day for fourteen straight days during the dog days of summer was brutal; however, it prepared us for our season. We were better off because of  this grueling regimen.

Many in the military, especially the most elite fighting force on the planet, the Navy SEALS, echo this sentiment, “He who sweats more in training bleeds less in battle,” which was initially attributed to General George Patton.
