
The history of cable TV foreshadows what’s to come for the internet
Grumbling about the price of cable TV is an American pastime. However, an assiduous analysis by Brent Skorup at George Mason University shows that if we don’t like TV prices, we have only ourselves to blame. That is, our elected leaders and the officials to whom they’ve delegated regulatory authority have created a thicket of taxes, requirements, and obligations that have caused cable rates to grow at four times the Consumer Price Index. And now, unfortunately, it looks like the internet might be next.
